Introducing PDF X-Change Viewer, the free alternative to related PDF software systems. PDF-XChange Viewer is a free software program similar to Adobe programs that help you to create, edit and design PDF pages.
PDF stands for Portable Document Format and is one of the most widely used formats for transmitting files on web pages, or via emails.
This program has been tested on Windows 7, and is suitable for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 2000. It should also run on older versions of Windows including Windows 98.
The biggest difference between this PDF Software and others, is that we want to complete a fillable PDF form, and then instead of just printing it to paper, we want to be able to save the changes we have made, so we can email the completed form to someone else. Traditionally most PDF programs only allow you to fill in these types of forms, but if you try to save them, the data you have just entered does not stay in the form. This is where PDF X-Change Viewer comes in handy because now you can save the completed form. And you can go back into the form, edit the fields you have typed into, and save it again.First read how to install the software (just below), and then read the next post in this topic on how to then use it with the fillable form.
To install the software (after you have downloaded it) we suggest the following method to achieve the best results.
After unzipping the download folder, you will see an install program. If you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7, then right hand click on the Application Setup File, and choose Run As Administrator.
The first window you should see is like this:
Step 1: Where it says Full Installation (as shown in the image above and highlighted) change this to Custom Installation.
The tick boxes should all remain ticked just as they are shown in the image to your left, and then click Next >
Step 2: In Select Start Menu Folder leave this as it is, unless you wish to change the folder directory.
If you do not wish to create a Start Menu folder then put a tick in the box, otherwise leave this as it is with no tick in the box and click Next >
Step 3: On Select Additional Tasks we have highlighted Create a desktop icon and made sure that the box is ticked.
The lower two boxes have been left un-ticked, but this is a matter of personal preference. You can always set this program as your Default Viewer later on by using the program preferences once the software is installed.
Step 4: This is why we chose the Custom Installation (and normally do when we install software on our own systems) – the toolbar options page!
It is up to you if you want these toolbars, but we personally did not, so make sure that all 3 boxes are un-checked before you click Next >
Step 5:Registration Information is not required and we want the Free Version, so checkmark the free version option and then click Next >
Step 6: PDF-XChange is now ready to install. If you are happy with the settings shown, then click Install to proceed.
The installation will take only a few minutes if that.
Step 7:With setup now complete, you can choose to either run PDF-XChange now by leaving the tick in Launch PDF-XChange Viewer and choosing Finish, or remove the tick from the checkbox and choose Finish if you do not want to look at the program at this moment.

When you first run the program (as we did) it will ask you if you wish to make the application your default PDF viewer. You can choose later to make that decision by simply clicking No
Final Steps:If like us you want your software not doing stuff behind the scenes, then when you open the program you will see along the top:
File | Edit | View | Document and so forth
Choose
Edit and then
Preferences, and down the bottom (as highlighted opposite) choose Search Providers. Untick the box which says Allow Viewer to connect to the internet, and tick Switch off all search providers. Click Apply then click OK.
